Thirty Years of Legacy: Looking Back, What's Next?

LOOK: Commissioner Desiderio R. Apag III joined the Siargao Island Institute of Technology (SIIT) community in celebrating its 30th Founding Anniversary, reflecting on three decades of dedication, sacrifice, transformation, and the people who helped shape the institution. He emphasized that institutions that stand the test of time are built not only through major decisions, but through the everyday efforts of teachers, parents, leaders, graduates, and the community. “Time reveals what was worth keeping,” he reminded, as he recognized the many lives and stories that became part of SIIT’s journey.

Looking toward the future, Commissioner Apag highlighted the transformative power of education and its role in creating opportunities for individuals, families, and communities. As technology, artificial intelligence, and the world of work continue to change, he encouraged SIIT to keep learning, keep adapting, and keep growing, while remaining grounded in its roots and purpose. He reminded the community that education becomes meaningful when knowledge is turned into action, when graduates create opportunities, serve others, and contribute to the communities they belong to.

As SIIT begins another chapter, Commissioner Apag encouraged everyone to reflect on a simple question: “What will we add to it?” Legacy, he emphasized, is built from one generation to another: someone starts, another continues, and another makes it better.
